The Riad

This spacious, traditional, well equipped and fully renovated riad is on three levels, with 5 en-suite bedrooms. All rooms face onto a sunny central courtyard and the riad has a relaxed,cosy,inviting feel.The bedrooms are situated on the 1st and 2nd floors and the riad has two kitchens. On the ground floor there is a large kitchen/breakfast room, TV/DVD/computer room complete with a fireplace (ideal for children), the dining /living room also with a big fireplace and a spacious patio area with ample seating. The terrace has a very comfortable wind protected shaded seating area, fantastic for having breakfast, lunch and even dinner. There is also a second terrace for sunbathing with wonderful views over the medina.

Essaouira
Seeped in history, Essaouira is one of Moroccos most atmospheric and inviting coastal towns. The riad is situated within the ancient walled medina, a Unesco World Heritage City and within walking distance of many restaurants, galleries, the souk, harbour, ramparts, cafes and the beach. It is also only 2 minutes from parking facilities and taxis. Essaouira is famous for its well organized Gnaoua Music Festival at the end of June. The Alliance Franco Marocaine organizes many sculpture and music events throughout the year. Art Galleries and restaurants abound ranging from the very chic and international to the local Moroccan Berber cafes. Car-free and clean, the medina is engrossing to explore. Its narrow streets and alleyways are a colourful jumble of shops, galleries and workshops and its fortifications offer great views of the crashing Atlantic. Cannons on the Ramparts face the eastern rocky coastline of the Atlantic which contrasts with the wide sandy bay on the south side. Between the two lies the busy fishing port where you are spoilt for choice of fish which can be cooked on the spot!

Local Area
Several beautiful, historic towns are within easy reach, south of Essaouira, Taroudannt is a delightful, elegant walled town, with lively souks and good hotels, while Tafraoute makes a good base from which to explore the Anti-Atlas Mountains, it is particularly lovely in spring when the almond trees are in blossom. Marrakech, with its bustling souks and squares, is an easy two to three-hour road journey away. Conditions for windsurfing and kite-boarding are near perfect however sunbathers and swimmers are best served by the larger hotels on the seafront boulevards, which have sheltered pools.Many hotels also have swimming pools open to the public for a fee and serve alcohol and good meals.

The location of the house means you will hear some noise, though not excessive. It has a patio area, a balcony. If you are driving there is private parking with the outside areas of the house having external lighting.
